Islamic Parenting Tips

Tip # 1 :Develop a reading routine with your kids: Set a time of day , sit with your kids and read books with them. No matter how young (1 month) or how old (preteens) they are, they will love listening to you once you make it a habit.

Tip # 2 : Set a mini library for your kids: Choose books suitable to your child's age , and place them in rack or area easily accessible to your child.

Tip # 3 : Be a role model: If you never touch a book since you graduated , how can you expect your child to love reading. Try to read often, in this electronic age it is difficult to read books, when everything is available on internet, but for your child make a habit of book reading.

Tip # 4:Don't underestimate the power of kids magazines: Subscribe a monthly kids magazine for your kids, they are full of riddles, jokes, small stories, puzzles ,keeping your child's interest in reading.

Tip # 5: Plan for a weekly (most recommended) or fortnightly (after 15 days) or monthly book circle/meeting/party.(you can name it whatever you want) Arrange for all the family members (father , mother , all siblings, grand parents ) to be present in it, Let your children decide what they want to read. Ask them to read aloud, pay attention, don't correct mistakes at party, cook some thing nice to make it special, make it fun filled party, don't criticize or over do , just appreciate what they can read, at the end of party don't forget to read aloud a Hadith.

Tip # 6:Let them memorize duaa: رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِنْ لِسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي O my Lord! Expand me my breast; Ease my task for me; And remove the impediment from my speech, so they may understand what I say.
